Both the State of Nebraska and the recent federal relief legislation relax some burdens on employers and employees for claims related to COVID-19. In addition to extending the timeline unemployment benefits can be claimed, the federal government will supplement weekly disbursements for eligible claims by up to $600 weekly.
The short-time compensation program allows businesses to reduce employee hours and wages while allowing them to receive prorated unemployment benefits for up to 13 months.
Traditional furlough or layoff actions are governed by existing Nebraska existing unemployment law and regulations.
All applications and claims must be submitted through the Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL) NEworks system.
