TRANSPORTATION

MOVING PRODUCTS

Nebraska is a centrally located transportation hub for the nation. The coasts are reachable within two days by truck or train. It is home to some of the densest railway and cargo routes. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics reports the highway system is maintained well.

With no inventory tax, Nebraska promotes a strong warehousing and logistics sector, with 11,500 trucking companies and two in the top 10 nationally, according to the Nebraska Department of Economic Development. Nebraska’s low cost of doing business continues to be a benefit.

BUILDING FOR TOMORROW

Nebraska ranks No. 25 for transportation infrastructure. The state has taken a series of actions since 2011 to ensure adequate funding to maintain its valuable transportation system. Maintaining local infrastructure can be a challenge.

The Nebraska Chamber is partnering with Blueprint Nebraska to advocate for policies and partnerships to:
  • Develop an “inland port” to cluster transportation and industrial hubs for efficiency and innovative potential.
  • Scale up air services across the state, nationally and internationally.
  • Build Lincoln and Omaha into models for next-generation transit in mid-sized cities, piloting innovative electric, rapid transit, driverless and shared models.
  • Build 5G broadband connectivity and automation potential.

Broadband access can generate 1.21% GDP growth for every 10% increase in access, according to World Bank. While $100 billion in infrastructure boosts job growth by 1 million, according to the Economic Policy Institute.
