2009 Annual Meeting Highlights

 Governor Dave Heineman joins Lori Warner, President/CEO of the Beatrice Area Chamber, and Marion Kroeker, Executive Director of the Ogallala/Keith County Chamber of Commerce, in recognizing Chamber of Commerce Month in Nebraska. Warner is the 2009 chairman of the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce Executives (NCCE), while Kroeker serves as chairman of the Chamber Executives’ Advisory Council.  Marc LeBaron, 2009 State Chamber Board Chairman, accepts the gavel from 2008 Chairman Lee Glenn. LeBaron is Chairman and CEO of Lincoln Industries in Lincoln, while Glenn is Vice President/CFO of Kelley Bean Co. in Scottsbluff.  Speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood of Norfolk meets with Chris Kircher of ConAgra Foods before addressing the State Chamber Board during its morning meeting. Speaker Flood told board members that debate on the budget would consume much of the 2009 legislative session, in addition to other issues before state lawmakers.  Natural Resources Committee chairman Chris Langemeier of Schuyler answers questions from State Chamber members, as Transportations and Telecommunications Committee chairman Deb Fischer of Valentine looks on. Five influential state lawmakers participated in the Legislative Leaders Panel discussion during the afternoon.  At the Legislative Leaders Panel, U.S. Rep. Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska’s 1st Congressional District discusses matters with the Legislature’s Revenue Committee Chairman Abbie Cornett of Bellevue. Rep. Fortenberry addressed State Chamber members about negotiations on Capitol Hill surrounding the economic stimulus plan, while Senator Cornett briefed members about the challenges her committee faced in the early days of the new session. 
 Governor Dave Heineman presented awards to a select group of business leaders inducted into the Nebraska Business Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame was established in 1992 by the State Chamber and the University of Nebraska College of Business Administration. The 2009 Nebraska Business Hall of Fame class members are Gates Minnick, DuTeau Chevrolet/Subaru, Lincoln; The Simon Family, Omaha Steaks International, Omaha; Don Smeal (deceased), Smeal Fire Apparatus, Snyder, Neb.; and Willard Waldo, Waldo Farms, DeWitt, Neb.
